Getting started

The setup wizard

What each step of the Encadena setup wizard asks, why, and which answers you should check with your tax adviser.

The wizard opens after activation and is always in Verifactu > Setup wizard. It starts you in the test environment with the offline simulator, so nothing reaches the AEAT while you try things.

Step 1: does Verifactu apply to you?#

Verifactu (Real Decreto 1007/2023) applies to companies, self-employed people and other entities taxed in Spain that issue invoices with software (art. 3.1). It does not apply to:

  • businesses under the foral systems of the Basque Country (TicketBAI) or Navarra (art. 1.3);
  • taxpayers who keep their VAT books through SII (art. 3.3);
  • anyone who does not issue invoices, or only issues them by hand.

Source: RD 1007/2023, BOE-A-2023-24840 (opens in a new tab), checked October 24, 2026. You confirm this before going on.

Step 2: your business#

NIF, name or company name and address, exactly as registered with the AEAT, plus where invoices are issued from (Peninsula and Balearic Islands, or Canary Islands) and the tax (IVA, IGIC or IPSI). The NIF check character is validated.

Step 3: the mode#

VERIFACTU sends every record to the AEAT. NO VERIFACTU signs records and keeps them with an event register. See VERIFACTU vs NO VERIFACTU.

Step 4: the certificate#

Upload a .pfx, .p12 or .pem file with its password, or skip. See Electronic certificate.

Step 5: invoices#

  • When to issue the invoice: when the order is paid (default), at Processing, at Completed, or only by hand.
  • Series for full and simplified invoices.
  • Simplified-invoice limit: 400 EUR in general, up to 3,000 EUR for retail and some other activities (RD 1619/2012 art. 4). Ask your adviser which applies to you.
  • How lines without VAT are declared (not subject N1/N2, or an exemption). Ask your adviser.

Step 6: done#

The summary tells you how to test and what to do before going live. All answers can be changed later in Verifactu > Settings, with two limits: the production environment stays locked until the producer signs the declaración responsable, and a business that has sent records as VERI*FACTU stays in that mode until 31 December (RD 1007/2023 art. 16.5).
