Features

What Encadena does

Grouped by job: invoicing, records, aeat, setup, checkout.

  • Invoicing

Invoices and simplified invoices from WooCommerce orders

An invoice is issued when an order is paid (or at the order status you choose). With a valid customer NIF it is a full invoice (F1); without one, a simplified invoice (F2) up to the limit you set. Each series restarts every year.

  • Records

    Chained, hashed billing records

Every invoice, rectifying invoice and annulment creates a billing record with a SHA-256 huella that includes the huella of the previous record, as Orden HAC/1177/2024 art. 13 and the AEAT hash specification describe. Our tests reproduce the AEAT's published hash examples exactly.

  • Records

    Records that are never edited

Records are stored in insert-only tables. A mistake is fixed with a new record (a correction, a rectifying invoice or an annulment), never by changing the old one. A full chain check finds edits made directly in the database.

  • Invoicing

Tax QR code and VERI*FACTU legend

Invoices, order emails and the customer's account page show the text "QR tributario:", a 35 x 35 mm QR code with error correction level M and, in VERI*FACTU mode, the VERI*FACTU legend (Orden HAC/1177/2024 arts. 20 and 21).

  • Invoicing

    Invoice PDF

A built-in PDF invoice with the QR code at the top, attached to customer emails and downloadable from My Account and the order screen.

  • Invoicing

    Refunds become rectifying invoices

A WooCommerce refund issues a rectifying invoice by differences (R1, or R5 for a simplified invoice) linked to the original. An annulment record is available for invoices issued by mistake.

  • AEAT

Submission to the AEAT with your certificate

In VERI*FACTU mode records are sent to the AEAT web service in order, up to 1,000 per message, respecting the wait time the AEAT returns, with automatic retries at least every hour after a technical failure.

  • AEAT

    Clear statuses and fixes

Each record shows its AEAT status and CSV. Rejected records show the AEAT error code, a plain explanation and a button to create the correction record.

  • Setup

    VERI*FACTU or NO VERI*FACTU

Choose between sending records as they are created, or keeping them signed (XAdES) on your site with a chained event register and a summary every six hours.

  • Checkout

    NIF field at checkout

An optional NIF / VAT ID field in the classic and block checkout, with check-character validation for NIF, NIE and CIF and a format check for EU VAT numbers.

  • Records

    Export for your accountant

Download a period as CSV (one row per record, base and tax per VAT rate) or as XML with the records exactly as stored.

  • Setup

    Offline simulator for testing

Try the whole flow in a test environment with an offline simulator that never contacts the AEAT, then move to the AEAT test portal with your certificate.

Use cases

How sites use it, by integration

Encadena is Verifactu for WooCommerce. It turns your WooCommerce orders into invoices and simplified invoices, creates the chained billing record that Spain's Verifactu rules require for each one, prints the tax QR code on the invoice, and sends the records to the Spanish tax agency (AEAT) with your own electronic certificate.

The AEAT does not certify invoicing software. Encadena's producer signs a declaración responsable, which you can read inside the plugin. It is still a draft: see the notes at the end of this page.

What is Verifactu?#

Verifactu is the common name for the rules in Real Decreto 1007/2023, which set what invoicing software used by businesses and self-employed people in Spain must do (BOE-A-2023-24840 (opens in a new tab), checked October 24, 2026). The technical details are in Orden HAC/1177/2024 (BOE-A-2024-22138 (opens in a new tab)) and in the AEAT's technical documents.

In short, the software must:

  • create a billing record for each invoice and each annulment, at the moment the invoice is issued (RD 1007/2023 arts. 9 to 11);
  • chain each record to the previous one with a hash, the huella (RD 1007/2023 art. 12; Orden art. 13);
  • never let a record be changed without detection (RD 1007/2023 art. 8);
  • print a QR code on every invoice, and the VERI*FACTU legend when records are sent to the AEAT (RD 1619/2012 art. 6.5, added by RD 1007/2023; Orden arts. 20 and 21);
  • either send every record to the AEAT (VERIFACTU mode) or sign them and keep an event register (NO VERIFACTU mode) (RD 1007/2023 arts. 8, 12 and 16).

On 5 October 2026 the Ministry of Finance announced that it plans to postpone the pending obligations to October 2028 (press note (opens in a new tab)). How do I try it?#

Open the demo at demo.pluginloom.com/verifactu. It uses a fictitious issuer, the test environment and the offline simulator, so nothing is sent to the AEAT.

On your own site:

  1. Install Encadena and run the setup wizard. It asks whether Verifactu applies to you, your tax details and the mode.
  2. Test with the offline simulator: place an order, mark it paid, refund part of it, and look at the records.
  3. Upload your electronic certificate and try the AEAT test portal.
  4. Agree the series, the simplified-invoice limit and the treatment of untaxed lines with your adviser.
  5. Switch to production when the producer's declaración responsable is signed.

What you should know before buying#

  • The AEAT does not certify software. The producer signs a declaración responsable (RD 1007/2023 art. 13; Orden HAC/1177/2024 art. 15). Encadena's is a draft pending the producer's details and signature, and the production environment stays locked until it is signed.
  • The producer carries legal liability. The General Tax Law sets penalties of 150,000 EUR per year and per type of system for producers whose software does not meet the rules, and 50,000 EUR per year for users of non-compliant systems (Ley 58/2003 art. 201 bis, BOE-A-2003-23186 (opens in a new tab), checked October 24, 2026).
  • You need your own electronic certificate. The plugin cannot get one for you.
  • A live test on the AEAT test portal is still pending, because it needs a real certificate. The engine is tested against the AEAT's published hash examples, its signed sample record, its QR examples and its official XML schemas.
  • Out of scope: the Basque Country and Navarra (foral systems), SII taxpayers, orders in currencies other than the euro.
  • Ask your adviser about your simplified-invoice limit, special regimes such as recargo de equivalencia, and how untaxed lines should be declared.

FAQ

Encadena questions, answered

What is Encadena?

A WordPress plugin that applies Spain's Verifactu rules for invoicing software (Real Decreto 1007/2023) to WooCommerce orders: numbering, chained billing records, the tax QR code, rectifying invoices and submission to the AEAT.

Is Encadena certified or approved by the AEAT?

No. The AEAT does not certify invoicing software. The law asks the software producer to sign a declaración responsable (RD 1007/2023 art. 13; Orden HAC/1177/2024 art. 15). Encadena's declaración is shown inside the plugin as a draft until the producer, Four Cents, confirms its details and signs it. Until then the production environment stays locked.

When does Verifactu start?

On 24 October 2026 the dates in force are 1 January 2027 for corporate income tax payers and 1 July 2027 for everyone else (Real Decreto-ley 15/2025, validated by Congress on 11 December 2025). On 5 October 2026 the Ministry of Finance announced a plan to postpone them to October 2028; that change was not law on 24 October 2026. Check the current dates with your adviser.

Do I need an electronic certificate?

Yes, to send records to the AEAT (VERI*FACTU) or to sign them (NO VERI*FACTU). It must be a qualified certificate of your business or of someone authorised to act for it (Orden HAC/1177/2024 arts. 5 and 14). You get it from a certification authority such as FNMT; the plugin cannot get one for you. You can test everything before that with the offline simulator.

Has Encadena been tested against the AEAT's test portal?

Not yet. The AEAT test web service needs a real electronic certificate, which we do not hold. The submission client is tested against the AEAT's official XML schemas and published examples, and against an offline simulator. A live test on the AEAT test portal is pending a certificate.

Does it work in the Basque Country, Navarra or for SII taxpayers?

No. Businesses under the foral systems of the Basque Country (TicketBAI) or Navarra, and taxpayers who keep their VAT books through SII, are outside Verifactu (RD 1007/2023 arts. 1.3 and 3.3). Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla businesses are in scope; you can choose IGIC or IPSI in the settings.

What about recargo de equivalencia or special VAT regimes?

You can set the regime key, but the tax breakdown comes from the taxes stored on each WooCommerce order. Recargo de equivalencia amounts are not added automatically. Ask your adviser before using Encadena under a special regime.

Does it support other currencies?

No. Only orders in euros are invoiced; others are held with a note on the order. RD 1007/2023 art. 10.2 asks for amounts in euros.

Can I try it?

Yes. The demo at https://demo.pluginloom.com/verifactu/ shows sample invoices with their QR codes, PDFs and record chain, using a fictitious issuer and the offline simulator.

What happens to my records if I uninstall the plugin?

They stay. Billing and event records must be kept for the legal period even after changing software (Orden HAC/1177/2024 art. 8.3), so uninstalling only removes settings, the certificate and the activity log. Export your records first.

What if it is not right for me?

Within 14 days of purchase you can return a license for store credit worth the full amount you paid, to spend on any PluginLoom product within 12 months. Returning a license revokes it. Where the law gives you a right to a money refund, such as for a faulty product, we refund your payment. See the store credit policy for details.
